I spent my teenage years growing up in Red Lion. Through these
experiences I've learned to
appreciate many aspects of small town life. I enjoy the sense of community
and the feeling of being connected wherever I go. I can also relate to the
epidemic of boredom that often accompanies suburban existence. Unfortunately
boredom is often a major contributor to the amount of trouble that many
teens encounter.

18 South is just the beginning of a solution to give teens an alternative.
It’s a place to hang out and find refuge but it’s also an avenue to express
creativity and explore new interests. We are so excited to integrate more art
and music into this town and encourage young people to step out. The success
of this facility rests upon the active involvement of the people who attend.
We want them to embrace this as theirs and take ownership.
To anyone interested in becoming a part of 18 South; I would love your
input. What do you want to see happen? What are your interests? What would
attract you to get involved? We want this place to radiate the personality
of the young people of this town. 18 South is a statement that you deserve
more. You deserve a place to call your own. You deserve to leave a positive
mark in this town and prove that you are a future worth investing into.
We are just beginning to grasp the concept of what 18 South can become. With
youth comes freshness and ingenuity. I know a lot of the teens in our town
have become disillusioned with the circumstances of their lives, but I
encourage you to take this opportunity to make a difference in our town and
for yourself.
Note: Unfortunately Jenne has been ill for awhile and
unable to fulfill her duties as director. Currently Monte Jones is the
"acting" director until such a time that Jenne returns to assume her
position as the director of 18South.

This
is an exciting event in our town's history, and I am glad to be a part of
it. We are embarking on a creative journey. Our vision at 18 South is to
bring the arts to the foreground leaving behind idle hands and boredom. We
intend to encourage the abilities that these young and very influential
minds possess, from writing and singing to teaching and becoming an
entrepreneur. The boredom and apathy surrounding us will not just simply
disappear; without having a choice to do something productive, teens often
give into the peer pressures and the negative influences of the culture
around them. Our mission is to offer a choice. 18 South plans to be a
solution to the problem, not just another voice in the crowd pointing it
out.
